After more than 5 years as commissioner of the Forzday Racing League, Ethan Maestri gets set to step down from the position at the end of season 7 at Road Atlanta next weekend. The future of the FRL continues to be discussed and sorted for further racing. However, for Ethan, stepping down now fulfills a very important goal in getting the FRL established and viable.
"I never thought that I would always be overseeing the league. My goal has always been to steward this series to a point to where it had importance and investment by most of those that participate regularly. It's taken a few years, but the FRL feels like a race series that can stand on its own with or without my influence. Now that I feel that's been accomplished, it's time for me to step back and let others shape its future. It has been an honor to work with so many friends in developing this community that loves sim-racing."
Over the past few years, the FRL has been able to hold regular and varied series and has seen an overall growth in support and participation. While the formation of a committee to oversee the league is still being discussed, interest in the future of the series continues to be asked about as drivers and friends from Georgia to California look to the FRL to meet their sim-racing needs.
"It has been very gratifying to hear from fellow drivers that love and appreciate what the FRL has become and want to work to see its continued success. I look forward to seeing what the series will become and look forward to participating and playing my part, whatever that is, in its continued story. It will be nice to take a step back and let others make decisions, but leaving it altogether is simply not possible for me. I love racing, real or virtual, too much to simply walk away. Who knows, maybe this will be the step needed to up my race game and gain an advantage on Steppat, or at least get a foothold on that high step."
Details on the new administration of the FRL will become available in the coming weeks. Continue to check in on the FRL's blog page for the latest developments and announcements in the league.
